Teaching with AI

Adapt a worksheet for different levels of support

Use targeted AI requests to adjust scaffolding, language, and challenge while keeping a shared classroom learning goal.

Keep the learning goal stable

Differentiation is more useful when you can explain what changed and why. Start with a reviewed worksheet and identify whether students need support with vocabulary, the procedure, or the mathematical idea.

Avoid describing individual students by name. A general description of the support needed is usually enough.

Ask for a specific adaptation

Open the document and reference it in the side chat. For a small change, select the relevant wording and use Chat with AI.

Adapt these fraction questions for students who need more support. Keep the same learning goal, use smaller denominators, and add a worked example before the independent questions.

Create challenge through reasoning

For an extension, ask for explanation, comparison, or error analysis rather than only larger numbers. Review whether the adaptation introduces skills outside the intended lesson.

Suggest an extension question that asks students to explain why two methods give the same result. Keep it focused on adding fractions.

Protect the original and compare

If you need separate versions, preserve the original before requesting edits and create separate working documents as needed. Do not assume a revision automatically creates a backup.

Name versions by purpose, such as “supported practice” and “extension.” Check answers, instructions, and expected completion time for each version.
